Saw a great performance yesterday. I drove up to Fort Worth (of all places) to the Will Rogers Memorial Center to see Ellen Fullman perform on her Long String Instrument.
The event was well worth the drive. Installed in a 300ft long room with a metal roof, the instrument seemed to have evolved since the last time I saw it years ago in Austin. Performing in solos, duos and trios, Ellen, Susan Alcorn, and cellist Theresa Wong worked mostly in improvised long tones and textures. I particularly enjoyed the solo piece which Ellen seems to have been refining for quite some time.
Kudos to Herb Levy at ‘Other Arts’ for organizing this great show.
The Dreyblatt show was a real success. After the somewhat intense week of rehearsals, all the hard work paid off. Arnold was happy with the piece and we even got a compliment from Ellen Fullman!
We plan to go in the studio soon and make a recording of the piece.
